I Think I Can Beat Darth Vader

EXPERIMENT #185
"I THINK I CAN BEAT DARTH VADER"

FILM

Star Wars (1995 "Faces" VHS).

ALBUM

And in this Corner... by D.J. Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. Includes "I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson," a hilarious boast rap that inadvertantly became a call to arms for amateur brawlers everywhere when, less than five months after its release, newcomer Buster Douglas reduced "Iron" Mike to silly putty in a legendary ten round fight in Tokyo. This strange turn of events didn't seem to affect Jazzy Jeff or Will Smith, who continued making mildly popular parent-friendly jamz until Smith's movie career took off.

SYNCHS

- The record scratching noise in the middle of "Then She Bit Me" coincides with the interior shot of the Tantive IV shaking as a result of the Star Destroyer's direct hit.

- The line "they tried to make me go meet my doom" in "I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson" is heard as Princess Leia is being escorted to Darth Vader.

NOTES

I used to really be into D.J. Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. I had all their albums, watched "Yo! MTV Raps" constantly to try and catch their videos, and was overjoyed when I discovered the Fresh Prince was getting his own sitcom. Then they put out "Summertime," which I instantly hated. It seemed like a blatant attempt to crack the Top 40 (and it did). Disgusted, I declared Jazz and Will sellouts and started listening to Van Halen. I haven't looked back since.
